So, I'm going to start off with a cliche. Are you ready for it? Really? Ok, here it is: I really enjoy helping people learn! I have always had a "teaching" personality, and so it was no surprise to my family and friends when I left nonprofit management to return to school. I have taught first and second year composition at the University of Toledo and technical writing at Virginia Tech. In these positions, I helped to improve students' writing, researching and editing skills, working with them not only in the classroom, but on an individual basis as well. Though I specialize in writing, I also hold a B.A. in Music Composition and am proficient in music theory. In addition, I can easily familiarize myself with the subject a student is studying as well as the ways in which that student learns; with this information in hand, I find a method for helping them absorb the information. In addition to my academic experience, I also have worked as a trainer (restaurant and retail), camp counselor, youth leader, and committee member for a juvenile diversion program. I also spent 15 years in nonprofit management, specializing in fundraising and grant writing. These experiences helped to shape my ability to lead and teach others, skills I put to good use in my consulting business. I write a variety of marketing materials for businesses, teach technical writing courses to engineers, and consult nonprofit organizations on mission, fundraising, and operations. I have completed a dissertation and have helped others with their theses, dissertations, and capstone projects. I can help with editing, organization, grammar, and any other writing issues you might have. For reference: I scored in the 93rd percentile on the verbal GREs and received a perfect 6 on the analytical writing portion.

When not studying or teaching, I spend a great deal of time with my husband, 14-year-old son, and our puggle, June. We enjoy going for walks around town and playing various board games with our friends. When I have some time to myself, I enjoy reading a variety of novels and informational books, and when my mind is simply exhausted, I watch more T.V. than I probably should.
